A Hair Raising Event: July 16, 2009

Nicole Weinman

On Thursday July 16, JK Lifestyle, an up and coming social media event planning company, hosted  “A Hair Raising Event” at Daddario Hair Co, located in the Yonge and Wellesley area of Toronto to raise funds for YWCA Toronto Women’s Shelter. According to the YWCA site, ‘The shelter provides safe and secure emergency shelter for women and their children who are fleeing violence.”

Guests who attended got a blowout (wash and style) and their make-up professionally done. Five of Daddario’s top stylists, including the salon’s owner Paula Daddario and freelance make-up artist, Candice Torch donated their time for this event.  Invitees also enjoyed wine and gourmet cheeses and a mini silent auction.  Auction items included a pair of Sterling Silver Swarovski Crystal Crocheted Earrings, earring designed by Tamara Designs, a trendy purse from BOA, Moroccan Oil and KMS Hair products.

When I asked the host and founder of JK Lifestyle, Jenna Kashmiri about how it was decided to do this event, she explain that the Paula Daddario, the owner of the salon approached her and asked if she would be willing to help plan a charity event at her salon. Paula really wanted to help a woman’s shelter.  After doing some research they finally decided on YWCA Woman’s shelter. JK stated “In these tough economic times shelters are fuller then ever and organizations like YWCA need extra support! In addition to fundraising we were hoping to bring some awareness about YWCA”.  Kathleen O’Gorman an event planner from YWCA was at hand at the event and was a great resource being able to answer any question about the organization.

It was an exclusive event, but only in the sense that there were only a limited number of tickets sold in advance.   Many of the women who participated came in small groups of two or three, but several came on their own. All attendees were mingling and enjoying the night in the cozy lofty salon.  The majority of guests were from the Greater Toronto Area, but there were a handful who came from as far as Burlington, Hamilton and even Port Dover!

JK lifestyle has also successfully hosted and co-hosted other events including Shopaholics Clothing and Accessory Swap/Sale and Prospere Magazine Pre-launch Party.  JK Lifestyle is planning on hosting similar social events in the city for young professional.  The official website is currently under construction, and is looking to launch the website www.jklifestyle.com by September 2009.  Currently most of her promoting is done through social media sites like Facebook where she manages two groups ‘Bay St. Girl Events’ and ‘JK Lifestyle’. You can also follow her on Twitter ‘@I_heart_JK’.

Daddario Hair Co. has been operating for nine years and is conveniently located in downtown Toronto on Yonge Street just very close to Yonge and Wellesley. The salon consists of highly experienced and independent stylists who are always continuing their education through outside classroom seminars or by interacting with each other to share their creative and technical ideas with each other. Daddario Hair Co. is also a technical academy specializing in hair extensions one of the fastest growing industries in the world today. You can find them online at www.fusionacademy.ca.

All in all it was a fun girls’ night out with a great cause enjoyed by all. JK Lifestyle’s tagline is “Bringing people together to enjoy and experience the little social luxuries of life”; it looks like they were successful at accomplishing this at Hair Raising Event and contributing to a worthy charity at the same time.  You can be sure to be hearing more from JK Lifestyle and some of her other fun social networking events.
