Blo, Toronto’s only blow-dry only bar held its fundraiser for the POGO (Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario) on Thursday, September 24. The event, held at Andrew Richard Design featured not only pink drinks (or “bevvies” as the party invite called them), but a “pink carpet” at the entrance. Guests were made to feel like they were celebrities, on their way to an awards show. Also outside were a claw-footed bathtub with a young woman reclining and blowing bubbles as well as a Blo-branded Smartcar.
The party itself was somewhat different from many other fundraisers. First off, the smaller space allowed for a much more intimate party. It was also not standing room only, as many events often are. The comfy couches on the sides allowed for people to sit down and rest their feet.
Like the majority of fundraising events, this one included a silent auction. Prizes included trips to New York and LA, as well as t-shirts. There were also “blo” t-shirts available for sale. Refreshment-wise, guests were treated not only to delicious appetizers, but colour-themed cupcakes from the Cupcakery as well. Themed in two shades of pink and white, the cupcakes came in both standard and mini sizes.
As a blow dry bar, the party would have been more interesting if there was something which involved hair – perhaps a travelling bar of some sort. Of course, this would have required a lot of set up and equipment which might be difficult, considering that the venue was at an upstairs location. Perhaps next year! In any case, the event was well-attended and a major success. The event raised over $4,000 for POGO.
