Elegant Lingerie, Not Elegant Weather

La Lingerie Française held its annual showcase from the top French lingerie houses at Artscape Wychwood Barns on Wednesday, July 7.  Featuring pieces fron Princesse tam•tam, Chantelle, Empreinte, Passionata and more, the event started with a cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres by chef Jean Pierre Challet, followed by the show itself.  Not only was this a standard fashion show, but also featured vocal performances by Canadian Opera Company artist, Ambur Braid, who sang two songs to open each act.

The first part of the fashion show was lighter, featuring mostly lighter colours and models prancing daintly down the runway holding parasols.  The second, which opened with Ms. Braid singing “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend”, combined with a hint of “Material Girl”, featured dancers wearing body suits and hosiery by Gerde.  The pieces in the second act were also a contrast to the first, with more darker colours.

Though many of the pieces were cute and sexy, the venue itself was not.  There was no air conditioning in the venue at all, so every single attendee was absolutely boiling not only during the presentation, but also during cocktails.  The venue itself was certainly hotter than the temperature outside, which reached a high of over 30 Celcius (and felt like 40-something).  I am sure many of us wished we were wearing lingerie ourselves, just to feel cooler.  Perhaps there’ll be air conditioning at the event next year.

  1. French lingerie looks very elegant and alluring, strange they did not take care of air conditioning. Maybe they really wanted all guests also stay in lingerie by the end of the show?
