Pleasant Outdoor Dining at Vaticano

You can spot Vaticano Restaurant in Toronto’s Yorkville area from far away – it’s the restaurant with a huge picture of the chef and owner!  The restaurant, which is a participant in the city’s annual Summerlicious and Winterlicious festivals also boasts an excellent “regular” menu.  At a recent visit, I tried their parpadelle Vaticano, a vegetarian pasta […]

True Restaurant’s Chicken Ballotinne

Prospere Magazine first came across True Restaurant in 2008 when it first opened in Yorkville.  This green and locovore-friendly restaurant has an amazing list of foods, ranging from pastas and pizzas to entrees like the chicken ballotine.  Stuffed with mixed nuts and dried fruit, the chicken is, in addition to the traditional potatoes and vegetables, […]

An Old Fashioned Experience at Avenue Diner

Cynthia Cheng Most diners in the city don’t live up to the nostalgic, old fashioned goodness of the Avenue Diner on Davenport and Avenue Road.  A small shop with very few tables and a counter, the restaurant has been around since the 1940s.  Only open for breakfast and lunch, the menu choices are very much […]

Brunch at Le Pain Quotidien

Cynthia Cheng About a year ago, I wrote about breakfast at Le Pain Quotidien, a European/French-inspired communal table restaurant chain which can be found all over the world.  Recently, my fiance and I revisited (actually, I revisited the place – it was the first time for my fiance) the downtown Toronto location for brunch.  Rather than ordering […]

Indigo Masala Room: Av and Dav’s Indian Restaurant

Cynthia Cheng It has been around for less than a year, but Indigo Masala Room, on Avenue Road just south of Davenport is perhaps one of the best Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the past little while.  Not only do they have good service (we were asked whether we wanted additional naan or rice), […]

Chimichanga Yorkville Now Open

Cynthia Cheng   Chimichanga Mexican Grill and Tequila Bar has opened its second Toronto location in Yorkville recently.  Though the location can be hard to find (it’s located at the lower level and can be easily missed without a sandwich board on the sidewalk).  My fiance and I went to the restaurant to test it […]

Icefest Festival: This Weekend – February 20 and 21, 2010

Yorkville’s annual Icefest Festival starts at noon on Saturday, February 20 (and runs until February 21) in Yorkville Park. As always, there’ll be ice sculptures, draws and much more. This year, many of the sculptures features will have a “Canadian” theme, including moose, polar bears and more. Be sure to come check it out!

The Olive Branch for Children's Intimate Downtown Gathering

Cynthia Cheng Over drinks and delicious hors d’ouevres, the Olive Branch for Children held an intimate cocktail event at the Empire Resto Lounge in Yorkville on Thursday evening.  There, founder Deborah McCracken updated the crowd with what has happened over the past year.  The news has been amazing.  One of the projects they are working on is building […]

Tanzania-Based NGO to Hold Two GTA Fundraisers in February

Cynthia Cheng The Olive Branch for Children, Deborah McCracken’s organization which helps people and communities in Tanzania affected by HIV/AIDS, will be holding two fundraising events this month.  The first, a small cocktail event in Yorkville, will be held this February 11 at the Empire Restaurant and Lounge on Cumberland and Bay from 7 pm to […]
